Book is In a Strange Room
by Damon Galgut.To clarify something about the character. Yes, he is gay. No, there are no physical parts to the book with any other character.
Also, it is OK to be a little uncomfortable with a main character that is gay. I know society tries to make you feel bad about being uncomfortable about gays. It's natural as a heterosexual male to feel this way. There is a difference to hating gays and just being uncomfortable when confronted with a book or movie that put you in the place of a gay character. It's totally fine to feel this way, just don't hate the book or author because he chose to make the main character gay.
